DIANE SCHUUR.
Blind from birth due to hospital complications, Diane Schuur grew up in Auburn, Washington, where her father worked as a police officer. Nicknamed Deedles since she was a child, Schuur discovered the world of jazz through her father, who played the piano, and through her mother, who owned a formidable collection of Duke Ellington and Dinah Washington records. Thanks to his privileged hearing (Schuur has perfect hearing), he began to play the piano in a self-taught way until he was only 10 years old when he gave his first concert, in a hotel in Tacoma. Shuur then entered the Washington State School for the Blind, an institution for the blind where he remained until he was 11 years old. Shortly after, he already had a good collection of vinyl by Dinah Washington, his most important inspiration.1

In 1971 he recorded his first single, a country song entitled "Dear Mommy and Daddy", and after passing through the High School he focused on the world of jazz and made some tours of the northwest of the country. In 1975 she appeared with the group of drummer Ed Shaughnessy at the Monterey Jazz Festival, and Stan Getz - present in the public - invited her to participate in a concert at the White House. In 1984, after signing with the GRP Records label, he released his first album entitled Deedles.1

Over the next 13 years, Schuur recorded 11 albums for GRP, including Timeless (1986) and Diane Schuur and The Count Basie Orchestra (1987), both of which were awarded a Grammy. In 2000, after having released a single album for Atlantic a year earlier, he signed with Concord Records, which publishes his Friends For Schuur. Thereafter, he began a series of collaborative projects: Swingin 'For Schuur (2001) with trumpeter Maynard Ferguson, Midnight (2003) with Barry Manilow and Fire (2005) with The Caribbean Jazz Project. In Some Other Time (2008) Shuur performs classic songs by George and Ira Gershwin, Irving Berlin and other standards composers.

PERSONALLY.
Diane Schuur is one of the best voices with which to delight us, her voice is charismatic, seductive, with spark and even humor.
His music is warm and enveloping Jazzy.
Her voice is imaginative, we can almost see the drawing of her melodies, perhaps her absolute pitch and knowing how to convey emotion to those who hear her makes this possible.
A gift for the day you hear it, for you, for those who decide to share
the musical development of this wonderful woman.
